Get Ready For Fall Cleanup!

Fall has arrived!

The cooler weather is setting in and the landscape is turning into a colorful display of reds, yellows, and oranges. This time of year is beautiful, but it doesn't come without its challenges.

The leaves are beginning to fall, and soon the green grass will be covered with a thick blanket of dry, brown leaves. And in comes the unpleasant tasks of raking, bagging, and blowing.

Fall cleanup isn't something any of us look forward to, but it's a necessary part of maintaining a healthy landscape. Here are a few tips to help you keep your yard looking great this fall.

1. Rake
Unraked leaves often get matted down under the snow and basically smother your grass throughout the winter. However, leaves can help insulate plants during the winter and they provide nutrients as they decompose.

2. Fertilize the Grass
Lawns love to be fed in the fall. Use a slow-release fertilizer which will allow the grass to soak up all the nutrients.

3. Weed
This often overlooked tasks is one of the best things you can do to prepare for spring.

4. Mow Low
Give your lawn one last mow,. Drop your blade to it's lowest setting, this will help prevent disease and mulch any remaining leaves.

5. Plant Your Spring Bulbs
If you're planning ahead for a beautiful spring landscape, plant your bulbs this fall. Try early-bloomers like tulips or daffodils.
